Michele Liu Baillie, Managing Director and Registered Patent Attorney, has over two decades of legal experience in the patent law. She has worked with Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized companies, startups, and individual inventors in around the U.S. and abroad, including Silicon Valley and New England.
 
Michele has the distinction of being named as a Rising Star by New England Super Lawyers in 2015, a Rising Star by Boston Magazine in 2016, a Super Lawyer by New England Super Lawyers in 2018, and a Top Women of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly in 2018.
 
Prior to founding North Shore Patents, Ms. Baillie was a partner at Sawyer Law Group, LLP, in Palo Alto, California. Ms. Baillie has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law. She is a registered patent attorney with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and is licensed in Massachusetts and California.
 
Ms. Baillie is actively involved with the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts (WBA) and serves as its Immediate Past President from 2018-2019.  At the WBA, Ms. Baillie served as its President from 2017-2018, on its executive board from 2013-2017, on its board of directors from 2010-2013, as well as the co-chair of its Gala Committee from 2012-2013. Ms. Baillie is also an active member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), the American Bar Association (ABA), the Boston Patent Law Association (BPLA), and The Boston Club.

Joseph Acayan

Joseph Acayan

Joseph Acayan has over 20 years of in-house and law firm experience, focusing his practice on patent portfolio development and strategic patent counseling.  He has worked with Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized companies, and startups in Silicon Valley.

Joseph has prepared and prosecuted patent applications in a wide range of technologies, including digital circuitry, analog circuitry, computer architecture, computer systems, server technology, storage systems, databases, wireless networks, cloud computing, software applications, Internet-related applications, social media applications, semiconductor devices, semiconductor processes, nanotechnology, medical devices, and mechanical arts.

Joe also has experience in organizing patent harvesting sessions to procure invention disclosures; performing prior art searches; evaluating and analyzing patents in the contexts of licensing, due diligence, competitive intelligence, and litigation; and reviewing technology licensing, joint development, software license and services agreements.

Prior to his patent practice, Joe worked as an electrical engineer at Advanced Micro Devices. Joe is registered as a patent agent to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Electronic Engineering from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo in 1993, and received his Juris Doctorate from Santa Clara University in 2000.
